Tuesday's Late Night Mini Ramble

After another non fulling day at the office, I decided to catch a few waves and surf the web.  Devour.com is one of my favorite webs sites to view various videos of 8 bit renditions of Star Wars to parkour chips and 3D chalk creations to movie trailers.  Available today was the first episode of HBO's new series The Newsroom.  Overall the show was pretty good, I enjoyed the brash conversations and overall concept.  However, between minute 6:49 to 8:00 I started to think.  Not how America can be great again, but how can I be great (again).  I began meandering down the thought path of linking how to become great can mix with creating art.   Let me define what becoming great means to me.  Creating a billion dollar net worth would be saweet, it wouldn't make me great.  Being great "today" boils down to making the most of every positive opportunity thrown your way and ensure my family knows I love them.  Next I began thinking about how do mix art with this thought.  Adding art to each opportunity was pretty simple as I thought about work.  Why couldn't I consider my work art?  Well...before having this little "mind meander" I wasn't really inspired to do my job.  After spinning my work into art, I'm some what inspired.  The documents / sites / emails / conversations I create each day are somewhat skilled workmanship and tend to lead others down various paths.  These paths maybe work related, but none the less they themselves are tools others use to compete tasks.  If I create a particular artifact that inspires someone to create a take initiative and develop comprehensive workflow of an entire system architecture then did I not create art?  If my words help a coworker weed through a sink hole of confusion and they in turn solve a complex problem, did my not create some sort of "verbal word art"? Who the fuck knows...what I do know is that tonight I found a little inspiration to make the most of my positive opportunities at work.  I'll be spending a little time thinking about how to mix art showing my family affection.  Come to thinking of it, my wife does this every night she makes an amazing meal...which is pretty much every night.  To bring this min ramble full circle, for me becoming great  boiled down to becoming and staying inspired.  This might have just happened....I'll check back in a few days to see if this thought process works.
