Free of Definition

Everyone so often I come across a video, blog, or have an actual person on person conversation that gets my creative mind spinning.  For the past year or so my buddy Dr. Lawyer and I have constantly knocked around kick ass business ideas in hopes that one will light a fire under our asses.  We're not looking to strike oil right away, just provide a cushion (or at minimum ease) to our financial bonds which herd us to cubical farm.

Courtesy of a Tim Ferris tweet, I came across a video of Neil Gaiman giving a speech to the University of the Arts class of 2012.  Suffice to say, his 20 minute spiel lit a new fire.  I've been thinking about the “art” world and how I fit in it. Reminiscing about my adolescence I recalled fond memories of recording silly ass stories my untamed brain would construct while hiking the to the cross, or S in the small town of Superior, AZ.  At that time I had no understanding what was being created, my only concern was how much shit my brothers, friends, or Mom would give me if they found out.  Creating and listening to these stores eased my worldly troubles.  Thinking back, I wish someone would have discovered my little secrete hobby.  Maybe they would have encouraged me to create more of this "art". Who knows??

Let's get back on topic.  What am I inspired to do NOW?  Make art.  What kind of art, fuck if I know. Having a plan will only restrict my creative juices (total bullshit).  Right now this space will be used to create horribly constructed stories, with little or no respect to grammar.  Post various forms of art I find appealing.  Maybe start on a journey to answer these two questions: "Who defines what good art is" and "Am I capable of making it?".  Whatever this space becomes it will be. (super Zen moment)

Here's Neil Gaiman's speech...enjoy..or not.
